A bit about National Racehorse Week

National Racehorse Week is a new joint venture between the National Trainers Federation and Great British Racing to celebrate the role of the racehorse. The purpose of the week is to give the public a ‘behind-the-scenes’ insight into the quality of care the horses enjoy and the bond between horses and those that look after them. The event was designed to proactively tell the sport’s welfare story and help shape public opinion in favour of the sport.

The brief

Our brief was to create a website from scratch to showcase the event and to act as a hub for information for both visitors and yards taking part. The website needed to explain clearly what the event is about, allow yards to register their particular event, as well as listing all the yards taking part across the country and specifically in a particular postcode. It also needed to allow people to book ahead of time, making sure to capture audience data to contact them afterwards. Overall the website needed to communicate key welfare messages about how the horses are looked after throughout their lives.

What we did

The event website is a clean, clear WordPress site. Photography takes the lead, showcasing the horses and the excellent care they receive. Big headlines helps reinforce this overall welfare message. Visually, the website builds on the identity to create an engaging UI with the introduction of gradient banners and a suite of bespoke icons to help a user find what they are looking for quickly.


The whole site is a WordPress CMS build which means it is completely content managed and editable for future events. The website allows a user to register for a live event as well as a virtual event, should the need arise. Confirmation emails are automatically sent out to confirm the booking. It is searchable by postcode location so that users can find their local event. Each event has a specific ‘guest list’ so that the yard could see exactly who was booked to visit them.

The result

The event has attracted such interest that most venues added additional dates to meet with demand. The event website is easy to use, engaging and gets across the important welfare message. We wish GBR every success with this important event.
